Looked After Children Bursary Scheme
This is our first bursary scheme. It exists to provide small grants to improve the educational opportunity and achievement of young people in care, known as Looked after Children.
Young people eligible for a grant through our scheme may be either young people born and living in Medway or young people born elsewhere and placed in Medway by another local authority.
The scheme is about improving educational opportunity and so can apply to children from School Reception Year through to those in Higher Education.
The fund is not intended to replace money that is available in or through schools or is available from statutory sources.
It is our strong intention to ensure accountability for the money we spend but not to tie the process in to masses of bureaucracy. We believe that our decisions should be quick and targeted to those where need is greatest and educational opportunity will be helped.
Applications can therefore be made in writing or in email and will usually be submitted by young people, parents, carers, social workers, youth workers, Connexions Personal Advisers, teachers/tutors/lecturers. An application should set out the details of the young person, the issue, and the opportunity that will be realised with financial help.
Applications should be sent to John Paton, Business Manager at Medway Youth Trust.
