About MYT

Medway Youth Trust is a registered charity. We exist to improve the life chances of young people. Established in April 2008, Medway Youth Trust can not claim tradition or a sense of history. However this means we are also not stifled by the past.

We have a simple vision of a vibrant, prosperous and safe community in which every young person, whatever their background or circumstance, is valued, challenged and supported to achieve their potential. Our charity’s mission is to help improve the life chances of young people.

Medway Youth Trust is currently involved in delivery of three main pieces of work although we havea strong commitment to deliver new and other work which supports our vision and mission.

Connexions Service

This is a service for young people aged 13-19 (and up to 25 for young people with learning difficulties or disabilities). It is a service which is rooted in legislation about certain entitlements for young people. Through a team of skilled and experienced Personal Advisers, our Connexions service provides impartial and independent information, advice and guidance for young people; this includes careers guidance.

Our impartiality is absolutely vital and is key to our work. And of course to young people. Our Advisers have the word ‘personal’ in the title because the advice and guidance is personal to each young person. There is not one size fits all and what is right for one young person, may well not be right for the person they sit next to at school or college.

Through Connexions services, we aim to ensure that young people are able to realise their potential through learning. Some young people face particular barriers to their progress and require additional or more intensive support so we help with this too.

If young people enjoy learning, are healthy and safe, they are more likely to achieve in school and make a positive progression to sixth form, college, work based training, employment and for some to university. This means a young person has moved from school in to employment, education or training (EET). Our Connexions services in Medway are designed to help young people leave school and stay in education or move in to employment or training. Of course we can’t do this all on our own and there are many organisations we work with who together are all trying to help young people achieve this.

Choice Advice Service

This is a new piece of work which we will be piloting this Autumn. Using our expertise at providing impartial guidance and our knowledge of schools in Medway and Kent, our pilot Choice Advice service will help parents and carers of Year 6 children make applications for places at secondary schools.

We will add more detail here as we develop our plans during the summer.
